CMMG/VTS Elite Dissipator 16" Mid-length Gas System/Rifle Length Sight Base AR15 5.56 Upper Cold Hammer Forged Barrel
Our standard chrome lined 4150 barrels are made with a button broach process. Barrels start out by being bored with a gun drill. The lands and grooves of this process are made by pulling a button through the bore. It is the form of this button that cuts the lands and grooves of the bore of the barrel. Finally the barrel is contoured on a lathe. Cold Hammer forged barrels utilize the same steel however experience a different manufacture process. The outside profile is still contoured by a lathe, but before that happens, we start with an oversize blank. That blank is inserted into a hammer forge. With a mandrel being fed through the bore, hammers pound the barrel down to a smaller diameter. The cold hammer forge process offers distinct advantages. Reducing the outside diameter of the barrel without removing material increases the density of the steel making it stronger and more rigid. Second, the crystalline structure of the steel is re aligned to the desired rifle twist. Third, pulling a button broach through the barrel creates tiny pot and tear marks through the bore. Where as hammer forged leaves a super smooth surface through the bore offering less resistance on the projectile. These Awesome Cold Hammer Forged CHF 1:7" twist barrels are extremely durable with a 20,000+ round service life. CMMG 16 inch CHF barrel utilizes a Mid-length gas system hidden with micro gas block underneath a rifle length Magpul MOE handguard. This offers the optimum rifle length sight radius. The barrels utilize a Forged F-Marked A2 front sight base which is taper pinned to the barrel in the Rifle-Length location. The barrels have a .750" gas block seat with a properly sized gas port and the muzzle is threaded concentric with 1/2x28 threads.
Each barrel is High Pressure Tested HPT and Magnetic Particle Inspected MPI.
They have Mil-Spec M4 barrel extensions, Mil-Spec Phosphate finish on the outside (under the front sight base as well). These New Elite uppers also include a Forged charging handle, M16 HPT/MPI Bolt Carrier Group, Magpul MOE Rifle-Length handguards, and the Midwest Industries AR15 Impact Device Flash Hider.
Features:
- Shrouded firing pin.
- Forged Mil-Spec gas key attached with Grade 8 hardware and Properly staked.

What is a 'F' marked forged front sight base as compared to a standard front sight base? The F marked FSB is the correct height sight for a flat top M4 receiver and the detachable carry handle or folding rear sight. I want to get the 16" MedCon barrel with the rifle length sight for more accurate shooting. Why do you offer different length gas systems for this rifle? I guess I'm really asking, what is the benefit of a rifle vs. mid-length vs. carbine length gas system? The 16" MedCon barrel is available in three configurations with a rifle length sight radius. The first and least expensive is the Rifle sight/Rifle gas, This is a traditional direct gas impingement system and the front sight base is also the gas block. The Rifle sight with Mid-length M10M or Carbine length M10C use a micro gas block at one of those positions to operate the rifle. The front sight base is not connected to a gas tube and there is no gas port in the barrel underneath the sight, it is there to provide the front sight and support the handguards that hide the shorter gas system. The benefits of our M10 system allows for the longer sight radius for accuracy and the reliability of the shorter gas systems. The further the gas port is from the muzzle, the more gas that is available to the system to ensure reliable cycling, but a harsh recoil stroke. The closer the gas port is to the end of the barrel, the less gas is is available for cycling, but softer recoil stroke. The mid-length wins out for the people looking for the most robust option. |
